Government Affairs Specialist Full TimeSalary $48878.92 to $73650.56 per yearThe ideal candidate for this position will be a collaborative, results-oriented professional who can effectively build relationships in an environment that prioritizes innovation, organizational health and community service. The Government Affairs Specialist will assist with the Cityis legislative efforts at the federal, state, regional and local level by collaborating with elected leaders, government officials, the lobbying community and City stakeholders. iCandidates should be able to look beyond traditional solutions to further the Cityis legislative priorities and plan strategically, implement best practices, network with staff, and effectively interact with the community.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:iBacheloris degree in public policy, political science, business, urban studies, government administration, or a closely related field, and a minimum of two (2) years of recent professional work experience providing government relations or internal/external affairs professional services.ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:iAs necessary, must travel by air and/or ground transportation to attend meetings locally, in Carson City, Washington, D.C., and other locations as necessary. iMust reside in Carson City during the time the Legislature is in session.Preferred Qualifications:iLobbying experience and established relationships with elected representatives, government officials and the lobbying community.Licenses and Certifications:iMust possess a valid state driveris license and maintain satisfactory motor vehicle record and ability to obtain appropriate Nevada state driveris license within required timeframe.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:iPrinciples and practices of government operations and public administration. iInterrelationship of local, state and federal governments and their operations. iThe role, function and responsibilities of City Council members and other elected leaders. iTechniques for handling highly confidential and sensitive information. iRecords management requirements, regulations and systems. iDatabases, data tracking and analysis. iOffice software and equipment, including Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint. iEstablish and maintain cooperative professional relationships with community partners, members of the public, coworkers, management and staff in other departments. iStrong written and oral communication skills, including preparing and delivering effective presentations. iAbility to organize and manage own work, set priorities and goals, and meet critical deadlines. iIdentify, analyze and apply pertinent federal, state and local laws, codes and regulations. iAnalyze programs, policies and operational needs. iOperate a variety of computers, peripheral equipment, and system applications. iWork in a highly political and confidential environment. iMake independent decisions and act with limited or general supervision while complying with all laws, City policies and procedures. iSuccessfully perform multiple tasks simultaneously. iPrepare materials, manuals, and correspondence using proper grammar, spelling and punctuation. Accurately complete and submit reports, budgets, program sheets and other materials. iUnderstand and execute written and verbal instructions. iWork under pressure, exercise good judgment and make sound decisions in routine and emergency situations. iSedentary work: Exerting up to 15 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met. iNon-Sedentary work: Can involve a significant amount of travel or movement which can take place either indoors or outdoors.
