At William Hill we’re building multi-platform sports betting and digital casino products for the booming U.S. sports betting industry. Our Technology team has built a single app, multi-state platform that supports legal mobile sports betting in 7 U.S. states and counting, as well as our retail sportsbooks across the country.

Within our Technology department, the IT organization is the backbone for everything that allows us to be there for our customers. From networking and infrastructure to information security to production support, the IT team designs, executes and supports technology solutions for the entire company. The IT Operations Lead is a senior leader reporting directly to the CIO, helping to manage the department’s project portfolio ensuring alignment with the company’s business goals.

Job Description:

  • Define and improve processes throughout the IT organization.

  • Be a leader within the department, delivering the organizational vision.

  • Oversee the project portfolio for your requirements area.

  • Hands-on program management, working closely with technical leads to ensure that delivery is aligned to business targets and the technical roadmap.

  • Key escalation point within technology organization to identify and agree the best options to resolve issues throughout the program and agree on decisions where necessary with the CIO.

  • Track, lead, and provide progress updates on key initiatives in the department.

  • Create, track and report on the team’s quarterly Objectives & Key Results (OKRs), ensuring alignment with the larger Product Technology organization.

  • Create and track Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to measure the success of the team’s processes.

  • Manage relationships with key technology vendors.

  • Manage escalation of risks, issues, and dependencies, make decisions, and ensure mitigating actions that are successfully executed.

  • Attend and present to steering groups, technical review boards, and various other committees to secure funding for new projects.

  • Support the CIO in managing the organization’s budget, ensuring appropriate funding is secured for all projects.

  • Track the hiring process for open roles within the IT department.


  • 10+ years of technology management or program management / project delivery experience leading complex transformationalnetworking and infrastructure initiatives.

  • Knowledge of IT delivery processes and approaches (i.e. ITSM, AGILE and Scaled Agile).

  • Detailed knowledge of modern IT infrastructure, platform, network, and data security architectures, and best practices.

  • Experience leading large, cross functional programs or initiatives.

  • Experience in process management and process improvement.

  • Ability to build trusting relationships with your colleagues.

  • Lead without hierarchy; you are a go-to person in the organization and must be able to lead through influence.

  • Strong customer focus recognizing internal and external customers, demonstrating a thorough understanding of customer needs.

  • Good technical awareness and appreciation of best practices, including regulatory, legislative and industry practices, gained through practical experience and/or professional qualifications.

  • Ability to focus on strategic goals and objectives while dealing with operational issues.

  • Proven track record in creating, line managing and mentoring high performing teams that are customer-focused and aligned to the long-term business requirements.

  • Professional management skills including communication, networking and influencing skills necessary to establish working relationships within the company up to board level.
