Amentum Chinese Technical Linguist (Translator) in Las Vegas, Nevada

JT4 provides engineering and technical support to multiple (https://www.jt4llc.com/ourlocations.html?linkID=TOP) western test ranges for the U.S. Air Force and Navy under the Joint Range Technical Services Contract, better known as J-Tech II. We develop and maintain realistic integrated test and training environments, and prepare our nation's war-fighting aircraft, weapons systems, and air crews for today's missions and tomorrow's global challenges.


Performs duties as a Chinese Linguist/Document Translator (Scientific and Technical).

  1. Possesses the ability to fluently read, write, speak and comprehend English

  2. Contributes to compiling, developing, analyzing, producing, and maintaining technical documentation and system/subsystem specifications

  3. Competency in the use of library filing procedures to include sign-in and sign-out requirements and document control

  4. Performs Quality Control for all translated documents

  5. Serves as a liaison with customers at assigned levels

  6. Serves as the Language Training Lead for the translation team

  7. Proficient in operating personal computers using programs such as MS Word and Adobe Acrobat

  8. Possesses knowledge of and or the aptitude to learn and use the following software programs: Paint Shop Pro, Photo Shop, Abbyy Lingvo, and SYSTRAN machine translation programs, in addition to other related translation tools

  9. Possesses an intermediate to advanced working knowledge of foreign characters in order to transliterate into word processing or database programs, to transcribe and identify documents

  10. Works closely with system technicians and engineers to ensure all document translation requirements are met

  11. Provides support to specialized technical groups/committees

  12. Performs other related duties and tasks as assigned

This position involves work typical of an office environment with no unusual hazards. There is occasional lifting to 30 pounds, constant sitting and use of a computer terminal, constant use of sight abilities while writing, reviewing and editing documents, constant use of speech/hearing abilities for communication, and constant mental alertness. The incumbent must be able to work duty days in excess of eight hours, occasional overnight stays, occasional extended days away, and perform shift and weekend work to meet required schedule demands. This position may require planned and short notice travel.


The incumbent must have an AS or equivalent experience and 3 years specialized experience translating foreign technical documents.

The incumbent must possess planning/organizing skills, be able to work under deadlines, and able to work independently with minimal supervision.

Some positions may require specialized experience in gathering, analyzing, compiling, and developing products on various threat, intelligence, and technological developments derived from the research of databases, films, journals, images, HUMINT, SIGINT, and/or professional contacts. Some positions may require engineering design and advanced computer skills using software products such as CAD and other graphic design programs.

Ability and willingness to travel, work extended hours, including occasional overnight and extended stays. Occasional short notice travel may also be required.

Must qualify for and maintain a government security clearance and possess a valid state issued driver's license.
